We recently had the pleasure of partnering with Remi Cachet for their exclusive hair extension masterclass at the prestigious NYC Warren Tricomi Salon on Madison Avenue. The guest list was a who’s who of local media, celebrities, and regional hairstylists, meaning the visual impact had to be high.
Our mission? To design and build a custom installation that didn’t just display their premium hair extensions but celebrated them. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we produced a custom 8×8 Hard Wall Backdrop complete with a mounted hair extension display rack, lighting, and a full red-carpet experience.
The Centerpiece: A Custom 8×8 Hard Wall Backdrop
For an event like this, a flimsy banner stand simply won’t do. We needed structure, depth, and a premium finish. The solution was a custom-built 8-foot tall by 8-foot wide Hard Front Surface Backdrop.
- Robust Framing: We utilized an aluminum tubing framing system to ensure complete structural integrity. This gave the wall the stability it needed to support the weight of the display rack and the hair extensions without compromising safety.
- Premium Surface: The front surface was produced using 1/4″ thick PVC board sheets. This material provides a perfectly smooth canvas, which we then custom-wrapped with the client’s specific color graphic. The result was a flawless, matte finish that looked great in person and even better in photos.
- Architectural Depth: To give the installation a furniture-quality feel, we included 8-inch “side wall returns.” These side walls hide the internal framing and give the backdrop a solid, 3D block appearance rather than a flat sheet.
The Innovation: Mounted Hair Rack with LED Integration
The star of the show was, of course, the hair extensions. Remi Cachet needed a way to display their products that was accessible for the masterclass but also visually stunning for the guests.
We built a Mounted Hair Rack integrated directly into the hard wall, following specific technical requirements to ensure functionality:
- Custom Facade: We crafted a 90-inch long by 4-inch tall facade from MDF wood. This wasn’t just off-the-shelf lumber; we painted it to match the specific color code provided by the client, ensuring seamless brand consistency.
- Hidden Mechanics: Behind the beautiful facade, we installed a hidden crossbar equipped with multiple eye hooks. This allowed the hair extensions to hang naturally and securely, making them easy for the stylists to grab during demonstrations.
- The Glow Up: Lighting is everything in the beauty industry. We mounted high-quality LED strip lights on the upper interior of the rack. This downlighting illuminated the hair extensions, highlighting the texture, color, and quality of the Remi Cachet product.
The best part? This entire structure was designed for longevity. The client retained the entire backdrop post-event. We broke it down for them, allowing them to keep a reusable, high-value asset for future pop-ups or showroom displays.
Setting the Scene: The Full Red Carpet Treatment
While the custom wall was the focal point, the surrounding environment needed to match the energy of the masterclass. We provided a suite of add-ons to transform the salon space into a true event venue.
Lighting and Ambiance
We deployed four wireless uplights around the installation. These added a wash of color that complemented the brand palette and added depth to the room, ensuring the setup didn’t feel flat under the salon’s standard overhead lighting.
The Arrival Moment
First impressions matter. We set up a Sleek Fabric Step & Repeat (8×15) for the guest arrival area.
- Material Matters: We used a heavy knit, wrinkle-free, and glare-resistant material. This is crucial for press walls, as it ensures that flash photography doesn’t bounce off the backdrop and ruin the shot.
- Heavy Duty Support: The print was mounted on our heavy-duty aluminum stand and framing system, ensuring a taut, professional look.
Crowd Control with Style
To complete the VIP feel, we laid down a classic carpet runner from our inventory, flanked by 4-6 stanchions with velvet ropes. This not only guided the flow of traffic but signaled to every guest that they were entering an exclusive experience.
